Vital Statistics of Lace Exhibition

This exhibition will be held at Pickford's House Museum, Friargate, Derby between 23rd April and 7th August 2011. It will showcase a selection of collars and handkerchiefs in hand made bobbin lace created over a number of years, and continue my creative journey through into Contemporary lace being developed through study at the University of Derby on the MA ADAPT programme.

Historically, lace has been something which maintained families, prevented starvation, encouraged child labour, been sold on the black market by grave robbers and yet was more highly valued than gold or jewels. What is seen by many as a quaint, old fashioned textile craft, is now being explored through contemporary media and formats and transforms this textile into a very different structure.

I will also be giving a lunchtime talk on this exciting journey on 27th April, and demonstrating bobbin lace on selected Saturdays throughout the duration of the exhibition.
Entry to museum and exhibition is free, and also free car park to rear of museum.
Everyone welcome.

Some of the work on http://www.louisewestlacedesign.blogspot.com/ will be on display in this exhibition, although not all of them.
